Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
What is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy?
Cognitive behavioral therapy is also called CBT. It involves identifying and challenging unhealthy thoughts. The idea is to pair the unhealthy thought with a healthier thought. Due to research and studies on this form of psychotherapy several cognitive distortions, aka thinking errors, have been identified. These behaviors are learned and can be reframed or changed. This helps to develop better coping skills to handle anxiety, depression and improve self-esteem. Problem solving skills, increased understanding and developing confidence in your abilities to handle difficult emotional situations are our goals. We use homework outside sessions to reinforce and support what we work on in session. We don't focus on the past or root causes of the unhealthy thoughts, rather we stay in the present and forward focused.
